Orthotics & Foot Assessment Service at Solid Ground

Many foot problems such as heel pain (eg. plantar fasciitis), pain in the ‘ball’ of the foot (metatarsalgia) and general arch pain can be caused by problems with the foot structure. Ankle, knee and low back pain can also be caused by mechanical foot problems. A thorough biomechanical assessment can help determine the source of your pain and how to treat it.

“Our goal is to alleviate your foot pain to enable you
to participate in activities that are important to you!”

What you can expect at an appointment

The appointment takes 45 to 60 minutes. We will conduct an assessment through observation of surface anatomy and palpation of the limb, gait analysis, range-of-motion, muscle strength, and balance testing, footwear analysis and review of potentially complicating health factors. We will provide you with footwear and foot care education and recommendations for treatment based on your assessment.

Orthotics

You may be casted for orthotics if you have a prescription from your doctor. We mold a non-weight-bearing neutral cast of your feet to capture their proper alignment. Our orthotics are fabricated in a board accredited professional laboratory facility to ensure highest quality standards (for more information on accreditation see: www.pfola.org).

Preparing for your appointment

• Bring the shoes that you normally wear.
• A physician’s prescription is required to obtain custom orthotics.
• If you have insurance, you may want to ask your provider about the requirements of your coverage.

Professional Qualifications

Our service is provided by a certified pedorthist and registered occupational therapist with extensive experience in foot assessment and orthotic therapy.

Pedorthists are individuals trained in the assessment of the foot and lower limb and the design, manufacture, fit and modification of foot orthotics and footwear for the purposes of alleviating painful or debilitating conditions and providing assistance for abnormalities or limited actions of the lower limb. For more information on Pedorthics go to: www.pedorthic.ca.

Occupational therapists are regulated health professionals who use a systematic approach based on evidence and professional reasoning to enable their clients to engage in and improve their function in the occupations of everyday life. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the occupations which give meaning and purpose to their lives. We all know how foot and leg pain can interfere with getting to do the things we want to do! For more information on Occupational Therapy see: www.otworks.ca.
